In the case of directional or horizontal wells, lines connect the associated surface and bottom locations, but have no relation to the actual trace of the borehole. One or two identification numbers appear next to most well symbols. The first is the most recent operator`s well number. The second is the last five digits of the standard API number assigned to the wellbore. Adding a three-digit county code before the five-digit number forms the complete API number.
